Communication

**PLEASE NOTE: all forms of communication are subject to monitoring, EXCEPT in person visits.

Phone: Speaking with your client can either happen by having the client call you collect or by pre-arranging a phone call with their counselor. We would recommend setting up a regular call for every 2 weeks or so. If you don't have the counselor's name and phone number, you can call the prison directly and ask - or call us at SCP and we'll find it for you. You'll always want to have the client's DOC # handy.

JPay: This is the email system for the prison. You can sign up for an account at jpay.com. You'll pay a few cents per email sent. Some prisons also allow Skype calls through this jpay system.

Mail: The old fashioned snail mail approach is alive and well in the DOC. You'll need to make sure you do a couple things when sending mail. 1. Don't send anything dangerous... obviously. 2. Make sure that your name and "Attorney at Law" appear in the return address. 3. Write "Legal Mail" on the envelope in bold letters. DOC will still open the mail for the inmate, but they are required to open it in front of them. 4. Make sure that you include the inmate's name + their DOC # in the address. Letters without DOC #s will be returned.
