About

Originally from Seattle, Washington, Willa first learned about the Seattle Clemency Project at a CLE during her first week as pro bono intern at Foster Pepper PLLC. Jennifer Smith, Jon Zulauf, and Emily Zulauf did a fantastic job of telling the story of SCP, and Willa found their passion for their mission contagious. She was eager to get involved from that point forward.

At the SCP, Willa spends one day each week reviewing pending requests for SCP’s services. This involves reading and writing letters, and occasionally joining Jen and Jon to meet with folks in the prisons. She has also had the opportunity to support the attorneys at Foster Pepper who are currently working on clemency petitions.

Willa works for the SCP because Jen Smith and Jon Zulauf are driven by the remarkable transformations that occur in the most neglected and ignored parts of our community: our prisons. The individuals we serve are models of resilience and hope, and all of us at SCP are fortunate to learn from their wisdom.

As for her favorite part of Washington, Willa says she never gets tired of its mountains!
